WHO IS THE BEST??? TEAM ON TEAM CHALLENGE!!!
Reply Quote
With all of the teams that are local around the Vital Field, I was wondering which teams would like to place their pride on the line and play other local teams. This would be for fun and it would obviously bring out the trash talkin but in the end, it would really bring teams together and give one team some huge bragging rights. This would need to take place when all teams could coordinate their schedules so they could get their entire team together. If you are interested, let us know by posting your thoughts and we will work out the details for this event.

Interesting concept.  Got an plans on how you would do this?

Aside from the obvious issue with teams being of various sizes, each team tends to vary greatly on what they do well.  Rather than a direct head-2-head competition, what about a best of competition.  Sort of like the Ranger Challenger or the Ultimate SWAT gig.

Here's how I would envision it:
Basically you come up with a series of challenges all of which are at the very core based on teamwork where all events are timed.  It would be a requirement that each member of the team has to participate in at least 2 events.  Some basic ideas are:

  • CQB - not against direct opposition but with a number of targets with a mix of safe and hostile targets.  Include room clearing while searching for props.  Stuff like that.
  • Obstacle Course - Minimum of a 2-man team must run/complete an O-course with live fire for accuracy and time.  Points based on both.
  • Demo/LAW shootout - Team Demo players must demonstrate accuracy, efficiency in time and target threat assessment.

I'm sure there are a ton of other options/ideas that could be used to come up with a way to test and score teams.  The thing is, if you use direct paintball fighting, you have a difficult time ensuring every team gets an equal opportunity at winning.  By using competitions like this, every team should be exposed to the same variables for a better scoring system.  I'm just not sure how well that will sell to paintballers who most want to shoot each other.

I like both ideas, how about a mixture of the two...When it comes to the size of the teams, you can still but them head to head just on a clock where only one team is actually playing for points at a time. Basically if a ten man team show up (team A), when its there turn for force on force you combine other teams to make up another ten man team (team B). and the faster that team A can win the more points they get. Or you could randomly pick five names form each team and put them up against five random names from another team. that way even if you have 10 people on one team numbers wont matter because each team is equal for the force on force.

As far as the LAW shootout goes i think its a great idea, but not everyone has access to them. if you did a very specfic event like that you would have to give players time to practice with those specific tools.

We have already come up with targets that we are incorporating into our scenario games that will be placed in the berms course for competition shooting during down times like friday evening during camping etc. I am open to any and all ideas that will entertain all players. If anyone is interested, let me know. We can do this soon and everyone can burn the paint that they have bought throughout the last events and blow it out at our field. Thats just an idea.

I think the biggest hurdle is to come up with a common, reproducible method of measuring a teams skills.  Having team A fight a random assortment of players selected from a pool does not equate to team B playing a different assortment of players.  If you take my meaning.

If you're measuring teams based on scenario type of play, I think it's important to have challenges that test all five of the classes; Leader, Medic, Demolitions, Engineer and Pilot.  Perhaps a set situation that evaluates how a team comes to a solution based on quickest time and fewest resources.  Stuff like that.

The direct head-2-head is good and all, but I just don't see it as an accurate measurement of teams.  I will qualify that by saying, unless everyone uses identical equipment.

There are a bunch of different ways to challenge teams; limited ammo, no re-spawn, etc.

Something that kind of popped in to my head right now is taken from the Mechwarrior universe.  A group leader is presented with a situation and known adversaries.  They then blind bid what are the least number of resources they can accomplish the mission with.  First team to succeed with the least amount of resources wins that round.  Not sure that's do-able in a paintball format or not.

I think if we can get a commitment from teams that are interested, we could ask the Commanders to put in a few ideas of their own and see what we come up with.
I do like the competition style with agility, shooting stationary and moving targets, 10 minute 2 on 2 or 3 on 3 objectives. I do not want to mix teams because that just defeats the purpose of total team unity and whos the best all around team. All teams have guys that run and gun and others that are more stratigic in their game. It would be interesting to see how teams utilize their strengths and weaknesses. I think this will be a great competition if we get our heads together and get it done.

Okay, here it is! We are holing our first Team Challenge on Jan 12th. Others are holding a similar event but we have gotten a very, very knowledgeable person that has much insight on the sport as well as earned the respect of many that play in this region. He has agreed to help us plan this event and give us his insight as to make this a great event. We are planning this event in hopes that it will grow to be something that everyone looks forward to each year. This first event will be smaller in scale as to work out the kinks as they show their ugly faces but it will still be fun. Prize packs will be awarded to event and individual winners and a trophy awarded to the overall "Best ballerz in NC" More to come very soon!
